GPs 2:1 Consultants
GPs triumph in closely fought match which goes ahead on time after doubts about the pitch which were only resolved on the morning at the game. The match started with the GPs on top and appeared to take the lead when Ron slotted home with the goalkeeper nowhere. In fact the keeper had hobbled to the edge of the box with a knee injury (again) and the goal is chalked off by the ref. So off goes Mike C and into goals goes Mikey. The GPs continue to dominate and their pressure is rewarded by a goal from Manny who shoots across the goal to open the scoring. Ron's master plan of sending Drew to the wrong pitch at the wrong tim comes unstuck as Drew turns up and his commanding prescence galvanises the Consultants who finish the half the stronger. At half time Pete and Nick agree that to negate the threat posed by the Big Yin we need to avoid conceding corners. Five minutes and 7 corners into the second half this tactic is obviously not working. Pressure eventually tells and Ravi breaks from the right and beats the defence before nicely lobbing the on rushing John in goal. The Consultants continue to put the ageing GP defence under pressure but against the run of play the GPs break and a rasping shot is parried by Rob's outstretched arms to concede a penalty. Paul calmly steps up to slot home although is relieved to see Mikey anticipate incorrectly. Despite continued pressure from Drew and Simon up front the GPs hold out and the match ends with the GPs victorious and the Consultants fractious.
Trips
There was snow in Zermatt and the football tour is confirmed for Southend on the weekend of 22nd June. Everyone got to see the rugby in Dublin. Ron has arranged a little holiday to Italy strolling along the Via Ferrata (Road of Iron). Bring your own karabiners. trip is scheduled for Sunday 16th September to Sunday 23rd September.
